Fast Fact: Most Popular Does Not Equal Most Available!

Despite Jack Daniel’s being the most popular brand of whiskey in the world, and despite Jack Daniel’s Distillery being one of the largest distilleries in the world, the distillery and Lynchburg, Tennessee are in a dry county. But no worries, you can still get a beer with your pulled pork when you take that weekend trip in Tennessee, just beware that the sale of alcohol is time-restricted, and prohibited on Sundays in this small town!

THREE Things to Do in Lynchburg That Are Worth Your Time

The Jack Daniel’s Distillery tour is something special! Going step-by-step through the meticulous whiskey-making process and hearing the tumultuous history of Jack Daniel’s legacy will give you a whole new perspective on the most popular whiskey in the world. And even if you’re not a whiskey drinker, you’re still going to learn something about perseverance and passion. Oh, and they offer both tours that end with tastings, and dry tours to suit your situation or preference.

Grilled spare ribs

If you love live music and barbecue, you’ll want to head to Lynchburg Tennessee every October for the annual Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue, or simply “The Jack.” You’ll be joining more than 40,000 people who show up for this prestigious event every year to savor the goodness of the best grillers and smokers in the world in this world-renowned BBQ competition. Put this on your list of “must-dos” for your weekend trips in Tennessee!

General Store and Barrel Shop

The Lynchburg Hardware & General Store and Jack Daniel’s Barrel Shop combo is set on the town square just 3 minutes from the Jack Daniel’s Distillery. If there is anything you want with the Jack Daniel logo on it, you’re probably going to find it here in this very cool shopping combo. My personal favorites are the repurposed whiskey barrels in the Barrel Shop that are made into everything from wall decor, to full bars, to outdoor planters. If by chance you can’t find what you want in this dynamic store combo, there are plenty of other small stores on the square for you to browse through while waiting for your tour.

THREE More Things to Know Before You Go:

  1. Just like my previous post about Tupelo, Mississippi being all things Elvis and little else, Lynchburg, Tennessee is all Jack Daniel and little else. It works well for this small town, just know that the distillery isn’t a side note for Lynchburg, it’s the main course!
  2. Finding parking shouldn’t be an issue, there’s free parking around the town square and a lot of free parking at the Visitor Center across the street from the Distillery.
  3. Lynchburg is a super easy drive if you’re heading south from Nashville. And if you’re not interested in a Jack Daniel’s Distillery Tour, I would recommend Lynchburg as a great stop for lunch at Barrel House BBQ or BBQ Caboose Cafe, and a nice stroll around the Town Square before you get on your way again.
