Fast Fact: Casey is home to 12 of “The World’s Largest” items and an additional 21 “Big Things.”
Spread randomly around the small town of Casey, you will find an amusing collection of the most random supersized attractions that you may ever come across. The town was a virtual ghost town in the early 2000s, but a smart businessman and resident came up with the idea to create supersized roadside attractions to draw visitors to the town. His plan has worked well and Casey and its attractions have been featured on several TV shows and the Travel Channel. Check out the Chamber of Commerce site to get additional info on where around town you can find all the big attractions.
THE point of interest worth your time:
This sampling of “Big” things should be enough to pique your interest and make the point that, Yes! Casey is worthy of a stop! I don’t have pictures of all the biggest and world’s largest items, that would spoil the fun, but I do want to thank my handsome model for standing in several of the photos to provide a size reference. It’s an amusing treasure hunt of eclectic items, from The World’s Largest mailbox, swizzle spoon, and teeter-totter, to the Big mousetrap, glider plane, and birdcage.
Best of all, all of the attractions are free, and most are outdoors and available 24/7.
FOUR Things to Know Before You Go:
Casey is in the middle of farmland USA, and to celebrate they hold an annual Casey Popcorn Festival over Labor Day weekend. Also, when you stop by Casey, be sure to check out the plants in the landscaping all over town that look and smell like popcorn. Seriously!
To find the supersized items, you should pick up one of the Visitor’s Guides readily available at most of the town businesses. The guide will list and map out where you can find each of the “Large” items, and it’s a scavenger hunt to locate them all as they’re spread all over the town.
There’s not much of a nightlife scene in Casey as of the time of this posting, I had a hard time finding a beer. However, I did confirm by word of mouth that several establishments serve alcoholic libations, they’re just not in abundance. I can’t recommend heading to Casey for the nightlife, but maybe I’m wrong. If you know differently, send me a comment below and let me know!
